The construction of HALO Enterprise & Innovation Hub in Kilmarnock continues to make good progress on site. Since the re-opening of the site at the end of May, the steelwork, floor slabs, roof deck, stairs and retaining walls have all been completed and the building envelope is well underway, with the SFS and Curtain Walling sub-contractors progressing well with their respective packages. The internal partitions and fit-out is scheduled for the coming months with the building due for completion in April 2021.
The steel structure supporting the roof level plant screen – shaped to resemble a ‘halo’ – forms a key part of the design and the client’s vision. It will be lit up at night, creating a unique focal point for the building and for the area.
Along with the adjacent Ayrshire College – another building delivered by Keppie which was completed in 2016 – the HALO sits on the 33-acre site of the former Johnnie Walker Bottling Plant, and will not only help to regenerate this part of the town but will also inspire a new generation of students and aspiring entrepreneurs. Future phases of the masterplan will provide housing and leisure facilities, which will ultimately provide a new identity of this part of Kilmarnock, and create an environment in which people can live, work, learn and play.
