West Dunbartonshire Schools Project gets off the ground

West Dunbartonshire Council’s £105m PPP schools project reached financial close earlier this year. The project will deliver new-build facilities for four schools, one of which, the 1100-pupil Vale of Leven Academy, will be designed and delivered by Keppie Design.

The contractor, HBG Construction, is now on site completing the early works, which consist of the demolition of an unused janitor’s house and the creation of segregated access for construction traffic. Full site accommodation will be in place from March 2008.

The new school building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2009, after which the old buildings will be demolished to enable the construction of new sports pitches and a car park by early 2010.

The design team consists of Keppie Design (Architects), WSP (Structural Engineers), KJ Tait (M&E Engineers) and Gardiner & Theobald (H&S Co-ordinator).

The Keppie Design project delivery team is based in the firm’s Glasgow office and consists of Alistair Howard, Norrie Davidson, Fiona McKinley, Suzanne Mackrell, James Ferguson and James McCallum. Keppie Design has extensive experience of educational projects in Scotland and throughout the UK, and combines creativity in design with robust delivery processes.
