Keppie designs
help secure success for First Class Consortium
North Ayrshire Council has named First Class Consortium as preferred bidder
for their £65m PPP schools project, after deciding that the Keppie
designed schools demonstrated better value for money than rival offers.
Keppie, as architects, planners and interior designers for each
of the four schools included in the project, adopted a design process
that benefited from the close collaboration of North Ayrshire Council,
their advisors and the teachers. St. Matthew’s Academy in Saltcoats
and Greenwood Academy in Dreghorn are both large secondary schools, while
Stanley Primary in Ardrossan is a two stream primary school with integrated
nursery facilities. On the Island of Arran, the new Arran High School
will be a community orientated secondary school. All will get the benefit
of 21st Century education facilities, and at the same time the design
approach allows each school to develop its own individual identity. Work
is expected to start on site in November this year, with the schools scheduled
to be ready for the start of the new session in August 2007.
First Class Consortium is led by Hochtief PPP Solutions (UK) Ltd., and
they are supported by Ayrshire based contractors Dawn and Barr. |
