Highland Schools get planning go-ahead

RFACS comments over ruled

Despite adverse comments from the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland, in one of its last duties, the ten school projects obtained full planning consent.

As Keppie director Martin English noted: “This project illustrated the inappropriate project review procedures by RFACS, whose commissioners came into projects too late, were misinformed about the background to them, and often personally had insufficient practical knowledge of the project types and initiatives to pass useful and constructive comment on them.

It is heartening to note that Architecture and Design Scotland is considering a more enlightened approach, similar to that adopted by CABE in England.”
