Keppie opens its doors to the public

On Saturday 17th September, architectural practice Keppie, will be throwing open its door and welcoming members of the public to look round its offices, as it takes part in 'Doors Open Day'. Visitors will have the chance to look round this beautifully designed workspace located in the heart of Glasgow's city centre.

The former church building located at 160 West Regent Street, Glasgow has served as the Glasgow offices of Keppie since 1989, when the John Ross Memorial Church underwent a major transformation. A new lease of life was given to the building when the practice converted the church into a unique office space, with the addition of a mezzanine floor creating two spacious open plan studios linked by a spiral staircase.

The building still retains many of its original features including the open timber roof, stained glass windows, and 'arts and crafts' carvings in both stone and wood, and is unusual in that it has two pulpits - one on each side of the chancel. The church was originally built to serve the institute for the Adult Deaf and Dumb and the double pulpit arrangement was provided so that there was one pulpit for the Minister and one for the person signing.

Coordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust, the very first 'Doors Open Day' took place in Glasgow 15 years ago and has proved so popular, that events are now held in towns and cities throughout the UK.
