Interior Design

Huangshan Grandview Apts

Brief
Keppie were appointed by the Yuanyi Group to develop conceptual interior proposals for a private residential development consisting of ten tower blocks, each housing a variety of hotel apartments and flat units. The development is in Huangshan, a popular tourist area near to the Yellow Mountains and is targeted to a medium price range market.
Response

The design aim was to provide three very different concepts which were fresh, light and contemporary specifically tailored to the anticipated buyers. The interior styling was to be warm and welcoming, each block and flat to have a clear identity, to be well considered and coordinated whilst still practical and functional

Design principles common to all the blocks were applied in the form of feature walls, fitted furniture, shower rooms and lighting. A neutral base palette of finishes, colours and textures were proposed for each block type and a distinctly different character and ambience was defined to each of the three concepts with carefully selected soft furnishing accents and highlights.

Subtle zoning of space was suggested by ceiling rafts set lower than the general ceiling height, which in turn allowed for indirect lighting to be recessed around the perimeter of each raft.  The soft ambient lighting took advantage of additional downlighters and was highlighted further by task and accent lighting to specific areas.
Outcome
Our collection of concepts considered a complete approach that would facilitate the volume of manufacture of fitted furniture fittings and fixtures and that would remain constant throughout all the blocks whilst allowing for an entirely different style to be achieved by the simple alteration of colour or finishes. The proposals were very well received and further development of the scheme has begun through development of construction documentation.
