Gardiner and Theobald Offices

Brief
Keppie Interior Design were appointed by quantity surveying and project management consultancy, Gardiner & Theobald, to design their new offices in the prestigious No1 George Square, Glasgow. Flexibility was core to G&T’s thinking, providing for the current needs of their staff whilst considering future change and flexibility. An open plan environment with no cellular offices was briefed, with accommodating around one hundred and fifteen staff. A modern, professional and corporate workplace was outlined without being ‘trendy’.
Response
Keppie undertook a series of space planning appraisals on a number of properties before G&T committed to No1George Square. This building offered the most flexible, open plan floor plate with a central core dividing the space into two zones. Initial space planning efforts illustrated how both project management and quantity surveying disciplines could occupy each half of the building whilst sharing central facilities. A series of design workshops allowed the Client opportunities to positively contribute to the design development. From these workshops we produced Stage D document illustrating the agreed proposals. Computer generated images, coloured floor plans and sample boards were provided for budget costing and G&T Board approval. At this stage we were confident that we had developed a highly distinctive design within the tight constraints of the budget. This level of detail allowed G&T to proceed with confidence.
Outcome
An elegant reception area and artistic business lounge link to shared meeting and conference facilities via private routes, screening movement and office activities from each other. This is a fun journey via a multi coloured ‘zebra’ crossing. Conference rooms are located at the periphery to maximise benefit from natural daylight. Teams have numerous opportunities for collaboration around the central touch down area and printing hubs. Keppie have handled texture and colour inventively with much emphasis on a ‘modern art’ style. The restrained, modern palette of materials provides a contemporary timeless feel.
